Maundy Thursday marks the official end of the Lenten season and commemorates the Last Supper on the night before Jesus was crucified. “Maundy” comes from the Latin “mandatum,” which means “commandment.” After Jesus washed His disciples feet, He said: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love on another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35). As we conclude our “Explore the Table” series and gather around the table one final time tonight, we will celebrate communion in a special way to remind us of Christ’s gathering with His disciples around at table for the Last Supper.
