Following the example of our Lord, generations of believers have felt the need to withdraw from their daily routines to spend time in prayer. An example of this might be a pastor’s sabbatical or a youth ministry’s weekend retreat. Throughout the history of the Church, Christians have gathered in camps or spiritual retreat centers to experience multiple worship services each day. One of these services was called “Evensong,” so named because it was a service held in the evening comprised primarily of singing.
Our daily routines have been upended by the pandemic — how much more do we need a time of spiritual renewal? To strengthen our connection with Christ’s sustaining grace, the Chapel will hold an online Evensong service on the last Friday of each month. Much like our recent Good Friday service, Evensong will be comprised of many members of our congregation leading us with scripture, prayer and singing. It is our prayer that in this evening of worship and prayer, you will sense the presence of the Lord, you will open your heart to his healing grace, and you will find strength for each day.
