Chapel Weekly Email - August 31, 2021
August 31, 2021
As we long to see God’s movement in our world today, we’ve been gathering together each Wednesday morning to pray for our community, our nation, and our world. Please join us tomorrow, September 1 at 10am for our Digital Devotion and Prayer. You can pray with us either in-person under the tent or online at wcchapel.org/digitaldevotions, Facebook, and YouTube. If you cannot join us at 10am, the most recent prayer time is also available on our website in addition to Facebook and YouTube.
Part of our strategic direction as a family of faith comes from Jeremiah 29:7, in which the prophet instructs God’s people to “seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf.” Our city is currently in need of additional bus drivers to support the WJCC public school system as students return to in-person learning this year. If you are interested in the opportunity, or know of someone who might be, more information can be found at https://wjccschools.org/job/bus-driver/. Let us also keep our teachers, administrators, and support staff in our prayers, trusting in God’s promise that follows His instruction: “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” (Jeremiah 29:7)
Hear from Elizabeth Duncan and Lynette Carpenter in the video above as they talk about the importance of childcare at the Chapel. One of the primary pictures that the Bible draws of the church is the image of the “household of God.” As part of God’s household, we’re looking for volunteers to help care for our families by serving our youngest disciples. If you are interested in providing childcare for infants and preschoolers, we have opportunities available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday mornings. For more details or to volunteer, contact Elizabeth Duncan at .
This Sunday, as we come to the final sermon in our Re-Cover series, we look forward to welcoming guest speaker, Garrett Spitz, Lead Pastor of the Peninsula Community Chapel, one of our sister churches in the Hampton Roads Consortium (to read more about our consortium and it's members, scroll down to the bottom of the About Us Page). Everyone is invited to celebrate what God has done at the Chapel in the past year. At the Annual Meeting, the Chapel's membership will also elect four new elders from our slate of six candidates. To learn about our candidates, click here.
Three organizations, Greater Williamsburg Movement, the Hampton Roads City Collective, and the Virginia Unity Project are committed to go to “the altar” in prayer for 2021. As part of 31 churches/prayer groups that have adopted a day a month to pray for our cities, state, nation, and world, the Chapel has committed to the first Thursday of every month.
September Week One Theme: Reaching out with the Gospel
Thursday, Sept 2: Pray for the outreach into the prison system to attract inmates to the gospel.
Bible Verse: I Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”
