June 12: Worshiping Together

Posted by Rich Sylvester on

Dear Chapel Family,

The practice of being together certainly looks and feels different today than it did a few months ago. In my home, being together means lingering longer at the dinner table, taking more family bike rides, and competing over more board games. With our family, friends, small group, and classmates, being together means sharing our lives over the internet with digital gatherings and endless texting. Personally, I have watched my kids participate in online talent shows with their classmates (way to go teachers!), I have played Pictionary with my family in Boston over a Zoom call, and I have prayed and connected with congregants under the portico at the Chapel. Yes, being together looks and feels different. For us, as a Chapel family, being together has meant meeting online each Sunday and throughout the week during our Digital Devotions and Prayer time. Personally, I have been extremely encouraged to be worshiping with each of you online, singing together, praying together, and learning together. I especially enjoy the photos that have been submitted and shared, knowing that my family is not alone as we worship from our purple couches in our home. It is good to be a Chapel family together!

As we continue to navigate this season together, I would like to share a few changes to what worshiping together will look like moving forward. Beginning on June 28th, we will begin worshiping together: Outside, Inside, and Online. Our hope is that wherever you may be physically, we will indeed be united as we worship together!

So again, starting Sunday June 28th, we will be worshiping together:

  • Outside: 9:00 am under the tent. Bring a chair or a blanket and sit wherever you feel most comfortable.
  • Inside: 11:00 am in our main Worship Room. Masks will be provided if you do not have one.
  • Online: Live streamed at both 9:00 am and 11:00 am, as well as recorded and posted so you can participate from home as you are able. Continue to access our services at wcchapel.org/worship, and be sure get there a few minutes early to enjoy time with others in the Digital Foyer.

As a Chapel staff we have been working behind the scenes to make the outside and inside services safe for all who wish to attend. You can read more about these details at wcchapel.org/worshipingtogether. And of course, for those in our community who prefer to stay home, we look forward to continuing to be with you online as well. Being together in this season may look and feel different, but it still very encouraging!

In the meantime, even as we look forward to worshiping together in new ways, we will continue to make our worship services available at 9:00 am on Sunday, June 14th and June 21st, as we have been. Also, consider joining us this Sunday, June 14th at 7:00 pm (Outside and Online) for an Evening of Outdoor Worship under the tent or from home (click here for more details) and then again on Sunday, June 21st at 7:00 pm (Inside and Online) for “The Bible in An Hour” as Travis walks us through the big themes of the Bible in an hour (more details to come).

Hebrews 10:23-25 encourages us to, “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another for love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” You are each a great encouragement to me and my family as we meet together in this season. May we continue to be that for each other as we worship together “Outside, Inside, and Online” beginning June 28th.

Privileged to serve,

Rich Sylvester
Lead Associate Pastor
