June 23 - A Note from Luke

Posted by Luke Kincaid on

Dear Chapel Family

I began my new role at the Chapel as the Next Steps Pastor in March anticipating new opportunities to serve. However, my role here at the Chapel quickly took on new meaning and direction during the quarantine as I began to learn how I could also serve as a digital pastor. Connecting digitally is very different than in-person, but I have seen God use our digital presence to help people continue to connect to Christ and community here at the Chapel.

This past Sunday, Pastor Ed Haywood, Associate Pastor of Tabernacle Church of Norfolk, taught us that the Good Samaritan in Luke 10 “broke stride” when he saw the helpless man on the road. In other words, the Good Samaritan’s compassion moved him to stop what he was doing to help. I would encourage us all to be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s prompts that may be asking us to break our planned or comfortable strides to show compassion on our neighbor. I have found that developing our sensitivity to the Spirit’s guidance requires daily submission to God and an active prayer life.

This week, we will continue to provide opportunities to "break stride" with the Chapel staff in submission and prayer during our digital daily devotions at noon. Then on Sunday, June 28th, we will have the opportunity to worship together — wherever you are spiritually and physically — Outside, Inside, or Online. While a description of each worship opportunity is below, you can find more details, as well as a list of Frequently Asked Questions, at wcchapel.org/worshipingtogether

Outside: 9 am under the tent. Bring a chair or a blanket and sit wherever you feel most comfortable.

Inside: 11 am in our main Worship Room. Masks will be provided if you do not have one.

Online: Live streamed at both 9 am and 11 am, as well as recorded and posted so you can participate from home as you are able. Continue to access our services at wcchapel.org/worship, and be sure to get there a few minutes early to enjoy time with others in the Digital Foyer (begins at 8:40 am and 10:40 am).

As a Chapel staff, we have been working behind the scenes to make the outside and inside services safe for all who wish to attend. To help us in our planning, we ask that you RSVP if you will be attending one of our in-person services. All are welcome at each worship opportunity. An RSVP is not required to reserve a spot but will simply help our staff team plan accordingly. To RSVP for our Outside (9 am) Service or our Inside (11 am) Service, please visit wcchapel.org/rsvp, or call the front desk at (757) 229-7152.

*As our digital pastor, I would please encourage everyone to try and join in the live chat options we have during our services. Facebook and YouTube make it easy to see the chat, but even on our website we have a chat box right below the video player where you just click “join chat as guest”, enter your name, check the box, and start chatting with me and others. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about this because it was all very new to me as well just a couple months ago.

I look forward to joining together in worship with all of you this week and I pray that we are willing to “break stride” in order to love our neighbors and even invite them to worship with you Outside, Inside, or Online.

In Christ,
