Dear Chapel Families,
Beginning this March, Luke Kincaid will be changing roles on our Chapel staff team. For twelve years Luke has faithfully served in Student Ministry, most recently as Student Ministry Pastor. Over these many years, Luke has had an enormous impact on students and their families (including mine)! Luke has faithfully prepared and given hundreds of sermons, lead dozens of small groups, met with families and students in a variety of seasons and circumstances, and he has generously opened his home and life to students of all ages. Luke has brought our students to seven different states and two countries, logging thousands of miles in buses, vans, and planes. Luke has answered phone calls from distressed students and families at all hours of the night and has visited hurting students in hospitals and jails. He has lost his voice several times a year and has learned to navigate injury and illness in almost any setting. What I am trying to say is that Luke has served with empathy, grace, courage, joy, and love for many years and I am extremely grateful for his willingness to give his life in ministry. His presence on our Student Ministry team will be greatly missed, but the good news is that he isn’t going anywhere.
Luke will be moving to the Connect Team where he will become the “Next Steps Pastor.” Our Next Steps position is designed to help facilitate the journey from guest to invested member as people find transformational connections with Christ and His community here at the Chapel. Luke has always excelled at making people feel welcomed and cared for and is clearly gifted at walking alongside individuals and families as they deepen their commitments to Christ and His community. I am confident that this next calling in Luke’s life will be a good fit for him and for our Chapel community.
I am confident, too, that Student Ministry will continue on in excellence even after Luke’s departure. Our capable staff team is ready to keep meeting students where they are on their spiritual journey as we provide opportunities for students to engage with Jesus and His Word. I am excited to work alongside our Student Ministry staff members moving forward.
In the meantime, as we embrace this transition I would like to invite each of you to help me thank Luke for his work in serving and loving our students for the past twelve years. I have set up an online “Thank You Book” through a company called From a Birdie, that will enable each of us to write a note of gratitude, share a favorite memory, and even post a few pictures of Luke through the years. Please take some time to share a word of encouragement and appreciation for Luke as he moves on to his next role. You can find your place to share at https://thank-you-luke.fromabirdie.com/contribute. Feel free to share this link with others who may wish to thank Luke as well.
